I am a born and raised Arcatan. I was a child playing tag in Redwood Park, a teenager walking from Arcata High to local businesses for lunch, and later an HSU student for my teaching credential for high school History. I have called this beautiful town my home for most of my 32 years and I am looking forward to continue giving back to the community that raised me. I have had the privilege to serve on the City Council for 4 years and want to continue making a positive impact for our community.

I have always had a zeal for government and helping the community. At age 10 when asked what I wanted to be when I grow up, I responded: “A U.S. Senator!” Seeing strong women in government has always been an inspiration for me. I have always had a deep sense of purpose related to public service and a strong connection to my community here in Arcata.

After graduating from Arcata High, I went on to study History at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, OR. I couldn’t stay away from the Redwood Curtain too long and moved back in 2014 to complete my single-subject teaching credential at Humboldt State in History and Social Studies and have been teaching ever since. In 2024 I received my Administrative Services Credential and my Master’s in Educational Leadership from San Diego State University and will continue my career as a school administrator.

During my tenure on Council I have served as Mayor and Vice-Mayor as well as serving as chair of the Redwood Coast Energy Authority board and Co-Chair of the Equity Arcata board. I am not only an active councilmember with strong working relationships with city staff and community partners but I am engaged in regional work for Humboldt County through participation in local boards. Through numerous study sessions and special meetings on the Gateway Area and General Plan, I have proven my ability as Mayor to lead and facilitate discussion in a meaningful and productive way.

I strongly supported policies to generate housing and protect tenants in Arcata. This includes championing infill to protect our natural areas and agricultural lands and supporting the City’s rental assistance and rental inspection programs. I bring the perspective as a renter to the City Council and want to continue to work on issues that are important to renters in Arcata.

I am also an advocate for active transportation in Arcata, helping adopt the City’s complete streets policy and enhance the City’s bike lanes and trail network. I enjoy living in the downtown Arcata area and walking and biking to my destinations. I know that sustainable transportation options will help Arcata battle climate change and improve the livability of our community.
