Education, Recreation and Community
As a teacher and school administrator, I view the role of education in our community as vital. Investing in teachers, schools, and community groups is of the utmost importance. I am a product of Arcata’s school systems, having attended Jacoby Creek School, Arcata High, and Humboldt State, and I am now a teacher in Humboldt County. I know first-hand how important these institutions are in shaping our population and future leaders of this community. Making sure children have access to safe educational opportunities, food security, and school and community-sponsored extracurricular activities are all monument to the growth and education of the next generation.
Our students are part of our community! We need to continue to strengthen the City’s relationship with Cal Poly Humboldt and to collaborate to make sure all students feel welcome and supported in our community.
I want to continue to advocate for our great parks and trails and Arcata’s robust recreation programs. During my time on City Council we have proudly updated parks such as the state of the art play equipment and pump track at Redwood Park, the connection and improvement of the Ridge Trail, Carlson Park, Shay Park, and Bloomfield Park! I want to continue to invest in the Valley West Area and bring more recreation opportunities to North Arcata.
